Expo 2015 in Milan

Expo 2015 arrives in Milan and La Scala raises the curtain on a Season full of operas, ballets, concerts and other events. Six months during which, for the first time in its history, the Theatre will be open without interruption. The Expo Season will be inaugurated on 1 May with Nikolaus Lehnhoff�s staging of T urandot conducted by Riccardo Chailly, who takes to the podium as Principal Conductor of La Scala.

This month will see two other important Premi�res. In fact, we will be featuring the first ever performance of Giorgio Battistelli�s opera Co2, commissioned by Teatro alla Scala, which tackles a very topical subject: the dwindling resources of a by-now-poisoned planet. Directed by Robert Carsen with the musical direction of Cornelius Meister. And the end of the month sees a return to the stage of Lucia di Lammermoor with two extraordinary interpreters: Diana Damrau and Vittorio Grigolo.

The beginning of the Expo also marks the start of the Festival of International Orchestras. This will be opened by the Berliner Philharmoniker, under the baton of their Artistic Director, Simon Rattle.

Also continuing is the Season of singing recitals with two evenings featuring the astonishing voices of Diana Damrau and Ren� Pape.

There will also be another opportunity to see the great artist Maurizio Pollini in a concert dedicated to Robert Schumann and Fryderyk Chopin.

But May has yet more treats in store for audiences. We will be continuing with the appointments of the Invitation to La Scala cycle, the concerts of the Academy, with the "Giorgio Bernasconi" Ensemble, and naturally with one of our greatest successes, Cinderella for children.
