15 Years of Siemens Festival - Nights in Salzburg: The Culture Festival for Everyone Celebrates its Birthday From July 28 to August 31, 2016 Salzburg’s Kapitelplatz once again turns into the venue for Europe’s most successful public viewing event: every year the Siemens Festival>Nights attract about 70, 000 culture enthusiasts to Salzburg’s historic city centre. This makes them an essential economic factor and a magnet for tourism in the region. In cooperation with the Salzburg Festival, ORF Salzburg and Unitel, Siemens screens Festival productions and concerts for five weeks, using state-of-the-art audio and video technology and a daylight-compatible LED wall. With Die Liebe der Danae and Faust, two highlights of this Festival’s programme can be experienced free of charge and live. As part of a special Anniversary Weekend on July 30 and 31, a varied programme awaits visitors, featuring additional screenings of theatre and opera productions. In addition, a grand anniversary celebration takes place on July 30 at 4 pm, with participating Festival artists, the Salzburg Bach Choir and the trombonists of the Vienna Philharmonic.
“Over the course of 15 years, we have made the Siemens Festival>Nights one of the most successful and largest public viewing events on the European cultural scene. With this format we have created a unique combination of culture and technology, becoming a fixed part of the Salzburg Festival events. As a leading technology company and one of the largest employers in the country, we consider it our social mission to make art and culture available to people free of charge. The annual record-breaking numbers of visitors demonstrate that our strategy is perfectly in synch with the spirit of the times, " declares Wolfgang Hesoun, Director General of Siemens Austria.
Siemens and the Salzburg Festival share a long history: Siemens has supported the Salzburg Festival as a Project Sponsor since 1996 and as a Main Sponsor since 1999. Since 2002 the Siemens Festival>Nights have taken place at the same time as the Salzburg Festival; the Siemens Children’s>Festival was added in 2008.
“15 years of the Siemens Festival>Nights - in our fast-paced world, that is a good long period of time. Anyone who could not secure a ticket to a sold-out performance or could not afford one has the wonderful opportunity to experience operas and concerts from our current Festival programme free of charge at Kapitelplatz. There is nothing comparable in the world: a festival offering its productions for the entire length of its season without charging one cent of admission. We are immensely grateful to Siemens, to ORF and Unitel for this opportunity, " thus Festival President Dr. Helga Rabl-Stadler.
“The ORF Regional Studio Salzburg informs and entertains about 600, 000 citizens of Salzburg every day. Being regional is very important to us. At the same time, as a cultural capital, we wish to allow all of Austria and the world to share the productions of the Salzburg Festival which we record and make accessible to the public. We are particularly delighted that our cooperation with Siemens, Unitel and the Salzburg Festival enables us to present the highlights of current and past Festival performances at the Siemens Festival>Nights. This enables us to give ‘Everyman’ an unforgettable visit to the Festival via our off-air stage at Kapitelplatz, " declares Roland Brunhofer, State Director of ORF Salzburg.
Jan Mojto, Managing Director of Unitel, adds: “The recordings we have been making in Salzburg in cooperation with ORF for several years - all of which are of the highest artistic and technical quality - justify the investment if they are transmitted to the largest possible number of interested people, via all imaginable channels, not just television. Unitel is proud to have documented more than 100 productions, including more than 80 operas, ballets and concerts, and happy to present them to a broad public at the Siemens Festival>Nights." |
