Don Carlo at Milano [ From category News ] [ Article date: 2017-01-12 ] [ From city Milano ] [ Country Italia ]   The heat is on for the Premiere of Don Carlo, Tuesday 17 January, with the integral 5-act version of Verdi’s masterpiece returning to La Scala 40 years after the historical edition conducted by Claudio Abbado in 1977. The baton will be inherited by another great Verdi conductor, Myung-Whun Chung, exploring all the nuances of this colossal work that Verdi, at the apex of his operatic career, drew from Schiller’s drama. Peter Stein will stage the masterful plot, where love and political affairs clash in the gloomy splendor of the Spanish Golden Age. Don Carlo at La Scala means also a tradition of great voices, as the score features at least 5 extremely challenging leading roles. In the nine encores at La Scala until the 12th February, we will listen to some of the best Verdi singers of our days: Krassimira Stoyanova and Francesco Meli star as Elisabetta and Carlo (whose parts are more extensive in the 5-acts version), the severe Filippo II is the legendary Ferruccio Furlanetto, while Eboli and Posa are the generous Ekaterina Semenchuk and Simone Piazzola. Tickets from €15 to €250 available online and at our Central Box Office (Sagrato del Duomo MM1, open every day from 12 noon to 6 pm).
