Coronavirus: Deutsche Oper am Rhein cancels all performances until 2nd April

Following consultations with Thomas Geisel, Lord Mayor of the state capital of Düsseldorf, who is simultaneously chairman of the supervisory board of the three establishments, the general management of the three major performance venues in the city of Düsseldorf – Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and Tonhalle Düsseldorf – have decided to suspend all performances up to and including Thursday 2nd April 2020. That also applies to performances of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the Theater Duisburg.

In making this decision, the establishments are firstly complying with the general decree issued by the state capital, which implements the decree of the state government with regard to the Coronavirus in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Secondly, with this decision they are assuming responsibility for their public, who they do not wish to subject to any unnecessary health risk in the current situation.

The situation is under review and is being re-evaluated constantly. The establishments are contacting affected ticket-holders in order to offer a reservation at some other time or a cancellation. The three cultural establishments hope that the situation will return to normal as soon as possible and wish to make their contribution by making this decision.
