Councilor of Region Emilia-Romagna Allegni: “We export opera and make it accessible to everyone to preserve a cultural heritage that is precious and appreciated worldwide.” The 2025 program continues with seven titles from the region`s traditional theaters broadcast on YouTube, promoting the Emilia-Romagna region, its excellence, and its operatic tradition worldwide. WWW.OPERASTREAMING.COM Bologna – Giulio Cesare by Georg Friedrich Handel, streamed live from the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna, will open the 2025 OperaStreaming season. OperaStreaming is the first regional opera platform in the world, promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Regional Department of Culture in collaboration with local opera institutions, coordinated by the Teatro Comunale di Modena, and technically executed by Edunova/Unimore. The project, launched in 2019 and now in its second three-year cycle, is a shining example of promoting regional operatic and cultural traditions on a global scale. Operas are streamed live on YouTube to a global audience, 80% of which comes from international viewers. “OperaStreaming is an ambitious project that we continue to support in collaboration with the region`s opera institutions, ” comments Regional Culture Councilor Gessica Allegni. “Through the internet, we bring our productions to a vast and diverse audience, with the aim of making opera accessible even to those who have never had the chance to attend a live performance. Technology allows us to export opera and make it accessible to everyone, preserving a cultural heritage that is both precious and globally appreciated.” The program will continue throughout the year with original productions streamed live from: Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia (January 26, Capuleti e Montecchi by Vincenzo Bellini) Teatro Comunale in Ferrara (March 30, the world premiere of the oratorio Serenata d`amore by Antonio Vivaldi) Teatro Regio in Parma (April 10, La bohème by Giacomo Puccini) Teatro Galli in Rimini (April 13, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci by Mascagni and Leoncavallo) Teatro Comunale in Modena (October 26, Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi) Teatro Municipale in Piacenza (December 21, Stiffelio by Giuseppe Verdi). 2024 Season Results OperaStreaming has confirmed its international success, attracting viewers from over 100 countries and strengthening its leadership as a reference point for spreading opera culture. In 2024, there was a significant increase in YouTube channel subscriptions: 2, 314 new subscribers, surpassing figures for 2023 (2, 166) and 2022 (1, 910), for a total of 26, 500 subscribers overall. Over the past three years, the channel generated 8 million impressions, 700, 000 new views, and 114, 000 hours of consumed content. Eighty-five percent of views came directly from YouTube, while 9% originated from OperaStreaming`s official website. During the 2022–2024 period, YouTube views primarily came from Italy (26%), followed by the United States (9%), Germany (3.4%), Spain (2.9%), and Japan (2.7%). In 2024, Japan showed a significant increase in interest in the project, overtaking Germany and Spain to rank third, following Italy (31%) and the United States (7.5%), with a 3.6% share of total annual views. OperaStreaming has strengthened its position with a distinctive creative concept, In the Heart of Opera, combining opera and regional identity. Promotional campaigns on social media and Google Ads, as well as features in specialized publications like Opera Now and L`Opera, contributed to the project`s success. On social media, OperaStreaming reached 660, 000 users on Facebook and 49, 000 on Instagram, achieving 7, 323 fans and 18, 300 interactions on Facebook, and 2, 033 followers and 3, 400 interactions on Instagram. The official website recorded over 41, 000 visitors in 2024, with 114, 000 page views (+10% compared to 2023). Additionally, OperaStreaming enriched its offerings with extra content, such as the video series The Other Side of the Show, exploring behind-the-scenes of productions, and Follow the Walker, dedicated to discovering the artistic cities of Emilia-Romagna.
